- Promoting optimal mobility, physical activity and overall health and wellness;
- Preventing disease, injury, and disability;
- Managing acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions;
- Improving and maintaining optimal functional independence and physical performance;
- Rehabilitating injury and the effects of disease or disability with therapeutic exercise programs and other interventions;
- Educating and planning maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline.

Physiotherapy is anchored in movement sciences and aims to enhance or restore function of multiple body systems. The profession is committed to health, lifestyle and quality of life. This holistic approach incorporates a broad range of physical and physiological therapeutic interventions and aids. The goal of physiotherapy is to return you to your optimal function and strength, while educating you about your injury.

Melanie Whittaker is a Registered Physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience in an orthopaedic clinical setting. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. Prior to her physiotherapy degree, Melanie earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario.

Melanie has been dedicated to continuing her development of physiotherapy skills and has pursued training in many areas. She has completed courses in Manual Therapy from the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and is currently working towards a Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Therapy. Melanie has also completed training in Vestibular Rehabilitation for the management of Dizziness and Balance related disorders. She has been educated in the Integrated Systems Model (ISM) approach, including craniosacral techniques. Melanie has acupuncture training through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. She has also completed many other postgraduate courses in manual therapy, myofascial release techniques, neural mobilization, concussion care, functional exercise, and patient management.

Through her years of experience, Melanie has developed skills to successfully treat complex musculoskeletal and dizziness related conditions. She is very passionate about her patients and strives to provide a very high standard of care. She has a hands-on, manual approach and is dedicated to educating patients, empowering them to understand their body to maximize the benefits of therapy.
